Wolfgang Utschick

Wolfgang Utschick, a Fellow of IEEE, earned all his academic degrees with distinction from TUM. Prior to this, he completed several years of certified industrial training programs.

Since 2002, he has served as an Extraordinarius (Associate Professor) and later as an Ordinarius (Full Professor) in Methods of Signal Processing at TUM.
Since 2011, he has regularly taught courses in Singapore, both as a faculty member of TUM Asia and as a guest professor at the Singapore Institute of Technology.
In 2021, he became a core member of the newly founded Munich Data Science Institute.
From 2017 to 2022, he was elected to serve two terms as the Dean of the ECE Department at TUM. He was also a member of the Board of Deans for TUM’s newly established School of Communication, Information, and Technology.

He is a member of the VDE and currently serves as the Head of the Specialist Group KT 1 for Information and System Theory of the ITG. In 2024, he was elected to the review board for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology with the DFG.

Wolfgang Utschick teaches courses on Signal Processing, Stochastic Processes, Optimization Theory, and Machine Learning in Wireless Communications, among other application areas. He has authored or co-authored numerous technical articles in international journals and conference proceedings, edited several books, and is the founder and editor of the book series “Foundations in Signal Processing, Communications and Networking” published by Springer.

He holds several patents in Multiantenna Signal Processing and has been a PI in various research projects funded by the German Research Fund (DFG). He coordinated a DFG Priority Program on Communications Over Interference Limited Networks and has been a leading PI of the 6G Future Laboratory of the Free State of Bavaria (Phase I and II) as well as the 6G-life hub.
